This is a rock church in the village of Gümüşler which lies on the northeast of Niğde. We can reach the church over a road that leads eastwards from the fifth kilometer of the highway between Niğde and Kayseri.

We enter the courtyard of the monastery through a long corridor. This courtyard is encircled by a number of rooms of the monastery. Its frescoes of the pre-Byzantine age and the nonreligious scenes in the church (like the scenes of hunt) indicate that it has a very far-reaching history.

The restoration of this complex has shown that the frescoes were painted by three different artists at different times. The frescoes date back to the 11th and the 12th centuries, and Eski Gümüş is one of the biggest convents of the region.
