The Daniel Chapel

The Daniel Chapel Cappadocia  The Daniel Chapel Date
Named after a fresco near the main entrance, depicting Daniel among the lions. The ceiling of the chapel is supported by an impressive arch and the earthen floor features several vacant graves.

The motives of the interior decoration belong to different historical periods. The large Maltese Cross facing the altar comes from the years of iconoclasm. Also the lions originate from the 8th century.

Flanking the altar, Prophet Daniel and Christ with Mary were painted after the iconoclasm. The two riders and the characters standing between Jesus and Daniel date to an even later epoch.
