tatlarin underground city   tatlarinkoy turkey tatlarin church
This underground city is at the fortress area of the Tatlarin village which is situated 10 kilometers to the north of Acıgöl, and is accessable since 1991. Besides the edifices built in volcanic tuff, we come across quite a number of churches in the fortress area of Acıgöl.

Land erosion has devastated most of these churches whose abundance indicate that Acıgöl has been an important religious center. Because the original portal of the underground city has been ruined, we enter Tatlarin through the rooms at the western side.

Only two floors of the Tatlarin underground city are accessible today. The huge size of the rooms and the storerooms show that this place has also been used for military purposes.
