GULLU DERE CHURCH

GULLU DERE CHURCH CAPPADOCIA
GULLU DERE CHURCH
A small church, circa 150 meters south of the village, featuring some finely carved stone reliefs. The frescos are much damaged. The principal mural shows a richly ornamented Christ flanked by a congregation of animals, of which only the head of a lion is still discernible. There is also a cherub with six wings.

On the road to Zelve, between strikingly beautiful tufa cones which no visitor can possibly miss, is the one-time refuge of Simon the Hermit. The ground floor accommodates a chapel with murals; the two upper levels were living quarters, complete with rock-hewn table, chairs, closets and bed.
