WHAT FIRKATAN FIRKATAN definizione
A small, independent monastic colony of the distant past, with several chapels, living quarters, dormitories, refectory, kitchen and wine presses established on two floors, connected by tunnels and shafts complete with round blocking stones. The principal chapel is not large enough to be defined as a church and it is devoid of frescos. The interior decoration consists of primitive red ornaments relevant of the earliest period of Christian presence in the region. Perhpas the most interesting feature of Firkatan are the amazing sanitary installations: four separate receptacles, each with a running water inlet with plug and a covered canal to convevy the wastes into a large cloaca—a perfectly functional forerunner of the modern water toilets, conceived by the monks of the colony in the earliest period of Christianism.
