EUSTACHIOS CHAPEL

EUSTACHIOS CHAPEL   EUSTACHIOS CHAPEL Cappadocia
The chapel is located near the Tokali Kilise. Accessible by a narrow footpath the present entrance is at the top of a flight of iron stairs.

Red and green dominate the frescos, a combination common during the earlier decades of the monastic colonies. The religious scenes are limited to episodes from the childhood of Christ, but curiously enough, these murals remind the beholder of the works of Picasso and Chagall.

The iconographs also reveal what the enemies of the local community were look like. The fierce-looking warriors, shown in the background, wielding swords and bows, are wearing Seljuk Turk helmets.
