Acıksaray is a town on the road from Nevşehir to Gülşehir, and spreads over an area of 1 square kilometers with its rock houses and stables.

It is believed to be either a monastic center, a caravanserai, a military headquarters, a big settlement, or a composition of all of these.

Because of the lack of decorated churches, the chances for it to be a monastic center decrease, and therefore we cannot estimate when it was really inhabited.
